Who we are
Clio is a SaaS customer relationship and messaging platform that helps businesses manage conversations, contacts, campaigns, and workflows on channels such as WhatsApp Business. We operate the product at the domains and apps where Clio is offered to customers.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use Clio, we may process:
- Account details — name, email address, password (stored as a secure hash), organization name, role, and billing-related contact details.
- CRM contacts — names, phone numbers, labels/tags, custom fields, notes, and other contact data you or your team add or import.
- Conversations and messages — message content, timestamps, delivery status, media, and related metadata for channels you connect (for example WhatsApp).
- Uploaded files — documents, images, and other media you attach in the inbox, campaigns, templates, or knowledge bases.
- Integration data — connection status and tokens needed to talk to third-party platforms you authorize (WhatsApp Business Platform, Instagram Messaging, Meta APIs, and, in the future, Facebook Messenger).
- Analytics and product usage — feature usage, approximate device/browser information, IP address for security and diagnostics, and aggregated performance metrics.
- AI interactions — prompts, responses, and related configuration when you use Clio AI features (for example assistants or playground runs).
- Payment information — plan selection and payment status. Card details are handled by our payment processor (for example Razorpay); we do not store full card numbers.
How we use the information
We use personal and business data to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Clio CRM platform
- Send and receive messages on channels you connect
- Run campaigns, workflows, templates, and team inbox features
- Authenticate users, secure accounts, and prevent abuse
- Show analytics, delivery metrics, and usage insights
- Process subscriptions and respond to support requests
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms
We do not sell your personal data or your customers’ contact lists to third parties for advertising.
Third-party integrations
Clio connects to platforms you choose. When you connect a channel, the relevant provider also processes data under their own policies:
- WhatsApp Business Platform (Meta) — message delivery, templates, webhooks, and business account configuration via the Meta Cloud API.
- Instagram Messaging (Meta) — when enabled, Instagram conversation data required to operate the connected inbox.
- Meta APIs — authentication, webhooks, and product APIs needed for messaging products you enable.
- Facebook Messenger — may be offered in the future under the same principles: only data needed to run the integration you connect.
- Other services you connect — for example Google Sheets for imports or automation, or AI model providers when you use AI features.
Your use of those platforms remains subject to their terms and privacy policies (including Meta’s). Clio is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Meta Platforms, Inc.
Data storage and security
We store data on infrastructure providers appropriate for a production SaaS product (for example managed databases, object storage, and application hosts). Access is limited to authorized personnel and systems that need it to run Clio.
We use industry-standard safeguards such as encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encrypted secrets where applicable, hashed passwords, and role-based access inside your organization. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure; we work to protect your data and continuously improve our controls.
When we share information
We share data only when needed to run the service, for example with:
- Infrastructure and payment processors acting on our instructions
- Meta and other channel providers you connect, solely to deliver the features you use
- Professional advisors or authorities when required by law
Team members in your organization can access data according to the permissions you set (for example inbox agents versus admins).
Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold about you. Organization admins can often update account and CRM data directly in the product. For broader requests, contact us using the details below.
For step-by-step instructions on deleting data (including for Meta App Review), see our Data Deletion page.
Cookies and analytics
Clio uses essential cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, protect sessions, and remember basic preferences. We may use lightweight product analytics to understand feature usage and improve reliability. We do not use invasive third-party advertising trackers on the marketing site for selling personal data.
Retention
We keep information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. After account closure or a verified deletion request, we delete or anonymize data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited records for legal, security, or fraud-prevention reasons.
Children
Clio is built for business use. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us so we can delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Clio evolves. We will post the revised version on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated by email or in-product notice where appropriate.
